Ingredients

For the Cookies
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted and browned
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional

Equipment

  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking, swirling occasionally, until the butter turns a golden brown color and smells nutty. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the browned butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Cover the dough and chill for at least 30 minutes. This helps the cookies spread less and develop a chewier texture.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between cookies.
  9. Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft. They will continue to cook as they cool.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an even richer flavor, you can add a pinch of sea salt on top of the cookies before baking.
