Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Thinly slice the onion and place it in the bottom of a casserole dish.
- Combine the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Season both sides of the chicken breasts with this mixture. Lay the seasoned chicken on top of the sliced onions in the casserole dish.
- Spread the BBQ sauce evenly over each chicken breast. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- Cover the casserole dish and bake for 25 minutes. Then, remove the cover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Remove from the oven and top with the crumbled bacon and chopped green onions, if using. Serve immediately.
