Cozy Ground Beef Swedish Meatballs

Ingredients
  

For the Meatballs
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs plain
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg beaten
  • 1/4 cup Onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups Beef broth
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg ground

  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowl

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, beaten egg, chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and nutmeg. Return the meatballs to the skillet.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.

Notes

Serve your Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a complete meal.
