Ingredients

For the Treats
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 package marshmallows (10 oz)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
For the Decoration
  • 1/2 cup white candy melts
  • 1/4 cup blue candy melts
  • 1/4 cup red candy melts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening (divided)
  • 1/4 cup star sprinkles

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until well coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan using a spatula or your hands (lightly greased). Let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  5. In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt the white, blue, and red candy melts according to package directions. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening into each bowl to make them smoother for drizzling.
  6. Drizzle the melted candy melts over the Rice Krispie treats in a random pattern to resemble firecrackers. Immediately sprinkle with star sprinkles.
  7. Let the candy melts harden completely before cutting the treats into squares.

Notes

You can also use food coloring to tint melted white chocolate red and blue if candy melts are not available. Ensure the cereal is fully coated for best results.
