Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey
  • 2 tablespoons neutral flavored oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3-4 cups all-purpose flour
For Serving
  • butter for brushing

Equipment

  • Stand mixer
  • Dough hook attachment
  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Clean kitchen towel
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. In your stand mixer bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for five minutes until it becomes bubbly.
  2. Attach the dough hook. Add the oil, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Mix, gradually adding more flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Knead for 4-5 minutes until the dough is soft, smooth, and slightly tacky. If it's too sticky, add 1/4 cup more flour and mix again.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a clean surface. Divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball by cupping your hand over it and moving it in a circular motion with slight pressure.
  4. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. Place the dough balls in rows of 3 across and 4 down. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy and doubled in size.
  5. Bake for 14-17 minutes until lightly browned. Remove from the oven and brush with butter using a pastry brush. Serve warm.
