Ingredients

For the Frappuccino
  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee frozen into ice cubes
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tbsp. sugar or to taste
  • 1.5 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tsp. instant coffee granules optional, for stronger coffee flavor
For Serving
  • 1 whipped cream optional

Equipment

  • High-powered blender

Method

  1. Place all ingredients except the whipped cream in a high-powered blender. Blend until the ice cubes are crushed.
  2. If the frappe is not thoroughly blended, let it sit for a couple of minutes and try blending again. Letting it sit for 5 to 10 minutes before blending can help.
  3. Pour into glasses and top with whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

Two cups of coffee typically make about 14 ice cubes or fill one standard ice cube tray. If you do not have a high-powered blender, you can soften the coffee ice cubes slightly in the microwave before blending. Use caution to avoid melting them too much, which can result in a runny frappe. About 45 seconds on the defrost setting is a good starting point, but microwave times vary.
